MC APPRENTICE DOULAS
& MC MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

At MC, we are dedicated to making high-quality Doula support accessible to every expectant family we serve. We believe this care should come from Doulas who have received exceptional education and training. Equally, we are committed to supporting aspiring Doulas in gaining a strong foundation and meaningful opportunities to learn the “art” of birth and postpartum care. As part of this commitment, we are proud to offer education, hands-on training, and mentorship for new and future Doulas—while also making reduced-fee services available for clients who deserve compassionate, evidence-based support through our Apprentice Doula Program.

Through MC’s Doula Training & Certification Program, we offer comprehensive education, certification, hands-on training, and continuing education for both new and experienced Birth and Postpartum Doulas. Our Doulas in Training receive a robust, evidence-based, culturally competent, and up-to-date curriculum designed to prepare them for meaningful and effective work with new and expectant families.

In addition to MC’s own Advanced Doula Training Course, we are proud to be approved by DONA International to teach the DONA-approved Birth Doula Training Course, a key step toward becoming a DONA-Certified Birth Doula. MC’s Apprentice Doulas often pursue certification through multiple respected training organizations to ensure a strong educational foundation and a high standard of care. These include programs offered by:

  • International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA)

  • Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA)

  • Childbirth International (CBI)

  • National Black Doulas Association (NBDA)

  • Healthy Start Doula Program (HSDP)

  • Southern Birth Justice Doula Program (SBJP)

  • …and other reputable local, national, and international organizations

This broad and diverse training ensures that the Apprentice Doulas you meet through MC are well-prepared to provide the high-quality, compassionate care our clients know and trust.

MC DOULA MENTORS

All of our Doulas in Training are supported by Certified and Experienced Birth Doula Mentors. These Mentors work closely with Trainees to help ensure that clients receive thoughtful, informed guidance as they prepare for birth or their postpartum experience.

When you work with an Apprentice Doula, you can feel confident knowing she is supported by an experienced Mentor—even during labor and birth. This partnership helps ensure you receive the highest level of care and support throughout your experience. As needed, the Mentor may check in with your Doula through brief phone or text communications, offering tips, guidance, and encouragement. These suggestions may include comfort measures, positioning techniques, strategies to support labor progress, and ways to navigate common challenges—all tailored to help your Doula provide the most effective and compassionate care.

The Mentor’s role is to support the Doula in Training behind the scenes—so that you continue to receive high-quality, evidence-based care without any interruption to your labor, birth environment, or postpartum experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT

At MC, we share in DONA International’s vision that “every person who wants a Doula, deserves a Doula.”

To help make this vision a reality, we offer connections to Apprentice Doulas at a reduced fee. For clients with significant financial need, we may also be able to match you with a Volunteer Doula in Training.

  • When working with an Apprentice Doula, you'll receive services similar to our Traditional In-Person Doula Support, with a few modifications to reflect their training status.

  • Please contact us to learn more about what working with an Apprentice Doula entails and how we can support your experience.
