Kimberly (Kim) Hinson
Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula
& Prenatal Comfort & Relaxation Technique Educator
Thank you so much for your interest in our company and our fine staff of Birth & Postpartum Doulas! By way of introduction, please allow Mother’s Care to share a bit about the Birth Doula care provider you are considering to assist you during your pregnancy, labor, birth and/or the postpartum period.
Kim is originally from Sacramento, CA and is currently living in North Broward. Her work and educational background is as a Pharmacy Technician. Originally, Kim focused on caring for new families in the postpartum area. As a mother of 9 children and multiple grandchildren, “Mama Kim”, as her family and postpartum clients have come to affectionately call her, felt most fulfilled caring for little ones.
What she learned as a mother and grandmother laid the foundation for her to work as a Postpartum Doula and ultimately receive training so she could work as a Professional Postpartum Doula. Kim is a highly experienced Postpartum Doula who provides all manners of newborn care. She has experience with breastfed or bottle fed infants, day/night routines, and so much more! Kim loves to care for and pamper her clients and their infants so that they get the best care and recuperate after birthing their baby. She understands how the birth experience and outcome can affect the Postpartum period so she can provide advice and guidance on maternal recovery measures that are safe and effective in the context of your birth outcome & experience. While working with Kim, new parents will benefit from her sage wisdom, time tested (and evidenced-based) information all wrapped up in her warm, friendly and caring nature. Kim always has a beautiful smile and comforting words to offer. Her postpartum clients truly feel protected, safe, encouraged and prepared to walk the journey of parenthood with her by their side.
Trained in the fundamentals of breastfeeding, if your goal is to nurse your baby, Kim can offer education, guidance and assistance for nursing families. Postpartum Doulas receive training to help them recognize the signs that nursing is going well (baby is satisfied and well fed, moms milk production is where it needs to be, partners and support family understand how their support impacts the breastfeeding process). For those who are having some challenges with nursing. Her training allows her to identify key areas that will help to improve your experience while also giving you strategies for healing and breast care. Feeding your infant may involve more than just nursing or you may have a need or preference to bottle feed. Kim’s support also includes guidance and education on breastmilk pumping, collection and storage. For families who will be bottle feeding with formula, Kim can educate you formula use and safety and how to ensure your baby is thriving and growing on your preferred milk brand. Kim wants you to know that “there is no perfect manual for parenting and no two parenting styles are the same. When we work together, you can learn as you go! We will learn about your baby together so that we can find what works best for all of you”. Kim wants to be the kind of Doula who helps you find the answers you seek, the support you need and supply knowledge from informed, evidence-based sources.
It’s no surprise that after caring for infants and mothers during their postpartum recovery for so many years, Kim identified how closely related the birth experience is to the postpartum period. How you birth your baby, the emotional and physical support you receive, what you experience and how you perceive the experience during the whole labor and birth process will directly impact your physical, emotional and mental recovery and even how confident you feel in caring for your baby! It was only natural for Kim to move into training to become a DONA International and MC Certified Birth Doula in 2020. Her experiences and training created a sturdy and strong foundation as a Birth Doula in a hospital setting as she has learned how to navigate the hospital system so she can assist clients who are planning a low-risk, low-intervention birth in a medicalized setting. She has experience working with clients who are considered high risk and require medical interventions that include induction, continuous monitoring, challenges related to long, slow-progressing labors and more. Kim includes specific strategies that she has learned to assist with birth experiences that are made more challenging due to back labor, fetal engagement delays and when certain medications or procedures impact the birth process (ask her about “The Flying Cowgirl” and “Miles Technique”, you’ll love them!).
Her goal is ensure that her clients receive the best, evidence-based care possible in a manner that is morally and ethically minded. She strongly believes that birth can be beautiful and women who need or choose to have interventions such as pain medication, induction, etc. “don’t make you less of a good mother or woman! Interventions, whether you choose them or need them, offer us opportunities to get creative and find the best methods to help your birth go smoothly! When you work with Kim as your Birth Doula, you have the opportunity to work with someone who can guide you to reach your goals in a caring, yet honest and direct way (all rolled up with her trademark humor and easy-going nature). Mama Kim has one of the best personalities we have the privilege of knowing. You will appreciate her sense of humor and “down-to-earth”, approachable manner.
MC celebrates the beautiful diversity and multicultural sisterhood we have the honor of working with. As a woman of color, Kim recognizes the importance of having care providers that are focused on reducing the current U.S. maternal mortality rate for women of color. The fact remains that women of color, specifically black mothers, “disproportionately experience adverse pregnancy outcomes, including maternal mortality, compared to women of other racial and ethnic groups'' (Nijoku, Evans, Nimo-Sefah & Bailey, 2023). It is also known that risks decrease if black mothers receive care from providers who are also people of color. This includes those who provide physical and emotional support during pregnancy, birth and postpartum as Doulas are trained to do.
Mother’s Care has always taken a serious stance on doing all we can to assist in reducing the risks for our clients, especially our vulnerable populations. That is why we surround ourselves with amazing Doulas like Kim who, regardless of your cultural, racial or ethnic background, who you are or where you come from, will be determined to help you achieve a safe and healthy birth. We work hard to provide all MC Clients the best in Doula Support and Care. We focus extensively on Training our Doulas so that they can be educated and equipped to know what parents need to know when birthing in our healthcare system. Our Doulas will not only help you during your birth and postpartum but Doulas like Kim can also help you receive the education you need to prepare so you can reduce potential risks to you, your birth outcome and your baby.
Kim is one of MCs Prenatal Comfort & Relaxation Techniques Educators. She teaches various strategies for labor and birth for couples who attend classes at Memorial West Hospital. Along with these strategies, Kim provides detailed information on what you can do to reduce your risks and improve the outcome of your birth. If you attend any classes at Memorial West in Pembroke Pines, you may get to meet Kim as she teaches her segment during the Childbirth Education courses. Kim also imparts that knowledge to her own birth clients. Whether you meet her during a class or work with her as your Doula, her knowledge will help you prepare, know what questions to ask your provider and guide you to make decisions that will improve this experience for you and your new little one.
Kim’s training, experience, fun-loving, gentle and kind nature make her a great Doula (for both birth & postpartum). She shares with her clients practical advice, evidence-based information and adds elements of the things she’s learned as a mother, grandmother and seeker of knowledge related to maternal-newborn health. On a personal note, Kim enjoys theater, the acting arts and being around/caring for children. She is an accomplished singer who has traveled the country to sing in various events. Kim’s beautiful and growing family will be welcoming their 24th grandchild in 2024! She loves arts and crafts and enjoys making beautiful celebration baskets for new parents that include all sorts of goodies and items related to pregnancy, postpartum and baby. We are confident that you will enjoy meeting and working with Kim!
We are pleased that you will get to know Kim and possibly have her assist you during your birth and/or postpartum experience! We promise her confidence and expertise will prove to be invaluable during your pregnancy, labor, birth and/or when you have your baby home with you!
Thank you for considering Mother’s Care to serve your family!
